About Me
My name is Tyler Kim. I am a young musician born and raised in Berkeley California looking to put my skills to use. I have a passion for playing the piano, photography, and rowing. With my three passions, I have created many amazing memories that will last a lifetime and I am forever grateful for those who have helped me become the person that I am today. I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to grow up in the East Bay, a cultural mecca of the arts, it is a privilege to be surrounded by a community that is so culturally diverse in music and I am able to make my own character and style off of the experiences that I have accumulated as a growing musician in the East Bay and love to share my talents.
I have played the piano since I was 5 years old. I started out with group lessons for half a year, then moved on to private lessons with my childhood piano teacher whom I have been studying under for over 10 years now. I have now moved on to continue my musical education at the University of California, Irvine to continue studying as a music student. I understand that each student is different, they learn at different paces and are able to practice varying amounts. I am able to adjust my teaching style to allocate a more personalized experience for each individual student. I began my teaching journey in 2020 with a peer looking to improve their repitoire, and have continued to branch my business out since then. Teaching is something I take an immense amount of pride in. Seeing my students develop a love for something in which they were previously untrained and seeing them improve their musicianship under my guidance has been extraordinarily fulfilling.
Throughout my over 10 years of learning piano as a student, I have performed at both concerts and recitals and also competed in various musical competitions. I have participated in the Junior Bach Festival and have been selected to perform at the winner's concert 5 out of the 7 times I have competed. In 2020 I received third place in the Classical category, participating in the US Open International Piano competition, and in 2022, I received first place in the Romantic category and second place in both the Baroque and Classical categories competing in the Advanced Piano Program. in 2022 I completed my 10th and final level of the Certificate of Merritt, receiving the state honors award. I have received the branch honors award and an invitation to perform at the convention every year that I was eligible.

Affordable Piano Lessons
I offer high-value piano lessons. I am capable and more than willing to teach students of all levels and all age groups. I initially started my journey of teaching piano with a friend from school who was looking to play pieces that their piano teacher believed to be above their skill level. I soon began to branch out to gain new students, some being complete beginners whilst others were already advanced students looking for a new or different perspective.
I give weekly lessons that go between 30 minutes to two hours. I am versatile with all ages with my youngest being 5 years old and my oldest being in their early 80s. I go to the student's residencies for lessons, thus they must provide a piano or keyboard
Gigs
I do gigs! At the moment I am open to playing at events such as weddings, parties, and gatherings. I charge based on the amount of time I will be working, I would also charge extra if I needed to learn new pieces but I have very reasonable prices. I would appreciate a few weeks of notice in advance to be able to arrange my schedule.

Commissions
I have a passion for creating music, my first ever musical composition was for a high school project in 9th grade. My compositions show much more maturity and diversity of musical elements from my earlier compositions. I look forward to making more and more music in the future.
